Oscelated Octopus Blue Ring, The venom of the blue ringed octopus (actually is their saliva) contains tetrodotoxin, one of the most lethal substances known to man which is porduced by the bacteria living in the salivary glands. They are toxic at birth, so a bite from even the smallest juvenile could prove to be deadly.Tetrodotoxin causes paralysis and respiratory failure.Ref; Rob Myers, "Dangerous Marine Animals."
